When the Good Friday Agreement was signed in April 1998 decades of sectarian tensions were finally consigned to the past.

Since then Belfast (pop. c.275,000) has developed into one of the most dynamic cities in Europe. A huge amount of investment is flooding into the city and several major new redevelopment projects such as the Titanic Quarter have been started.

Belfast has also become the natural gateway for foreign visitors to Northern Ireland and there is an increasing number of direct flights from several European cities.

The people of Belfast are famous for being open, warm and friendly and visitors from other countries will be welcome wherever they go.

Although my time in Belfast was quite short, everything was great and exceeded my expectations. I’m really glad I chose Belfast as a destination. It’s a very pretty city and the people are simply extraordinary; really polite and friendly with foreigners and their willingness to help you any way they can is simply remarkable.
