Queens University Belfast

This course takes place at Queen's University Belfast (photo, above), one of the UK's leading universities with a heritage dating back over 150 years. Past students include Seamus Heaney winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature and David Trimble winner of the Nobel Peace Prize.

Classes take place in Queen's University's beautiful campus which is located in the south of the city. Accommodation is provided in Elms Village Student Residence, in individual bedrooms complete with en suite bathroom and high speed internet access. Elms Village is just a 10-minute walk from the main campus buildings.

The university boasts the best sporting facilities in Ireland including fitness suites, sports halls, exercise studios, synthetic five a side soccer pitches, swimming and diving pools and indoor climbing walls.

Course details

Classes follow a communicative approach to the language based on real situations that students can use outside the classroom.

English classes are given by a team of experienced, professionally qualified teachers who have been specifically trained to teach English as a foreign language to younger students. Engaging classroom activities, combined with excellent classroom facilities such as computers, DVDs and interactive whiteboards, provide the ideal environment for learning and fun. Teachers prepare activities designed to improve grammar and vocabulary while practising reading, writing, listening and speaking.

English classes take place from 09.30 and 12.30 Monday to Friday.

Activity programme

The course includes a wide range of extra curricular activities each day. On-site activities include swimming, basketball, football, table tennis, squash, and handball.

Evening activities include talent shows, karaokes, discos, games, quiz nights, movies, and team building activities.

The university is ideally situated to take advantage of many of Ireland's best loved attractions. Saturday day trips include Dublin, the world famous Giant's Causeway and North Antrim Coast and the stunning Mountains of Mourne (inspiration for CS Lewis' Kingdom of Narnia).

Accommodation

The accommodation is located just a short walk from the main university building at Elm's Village. The residential village is set on a pleasant green site of low rise apartments. All students have their own individual room with en suite bathroom and free internet access (own laptop required). The standard of the accommodation is excellent. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable and the whole campus has recently been updated in a £45 million project.
